Are Foreign-Funded Pressure Groups Preparing to Challenge Hungarian Election Results?
Foreign-funded pressure groups are preparing to challenge the legitimacy of Hungary's election results, the Sovereignty Protection Office said in a statement.

The Office's findings indicate that international political pressure hubs are coordinating a disinformation campaign aimed at undermining the lawfulness of the Hungarian elections, the statement said. "A narrative is being constructed to accuse the government of electoral fraud and to claim it would refuse to relinquish power even in the event of defeat," it added.

The Berlin-based Democracy Reporting International (DRI) and Gesellschaft fur Freiheitsrechte (GFF), both primarily funded by Brussels, are actively involved in building this disinformation narrative, as is the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), which has previously been flagged in the Office's reports, the SPO said. According to its statement, the GMF alleges that the Hungarian government "may commit widespread irregularities on election day to sway the result in its favour."

It said foreign-funded organisations were recruiting and training activists for the operation. "Their goal is to mobilise these activists if the election outcome fails to meet the expectations of their financiers or supporters," the statement said.

"They intend to use reports from polling stations and studies for international forums to question the election's legitimacy, and have begun preparing protests and unrest to escalate pressure. This effort relies on groups specialising in mobilisation and electoral disruption, such as the 20K movement, which was also active during the 2022 elections," it added.

The Sovereignty Protection Office warned that anyone preparing to alter Hungary's constitutional order through violence or threats would be committing a criminal offence.

Heads of National Election Commission, National Election Office meet with OSCE experts

The heads of the National Election Commission (NVB) and the National Election Office (NVI) held a meeting on Thursday with a group of experts delegated by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the NVI said in a statement.

The meeting was attended by NVB head Robert Sasvari and NVI head Attila Nagy, and the OSCE delegation was led by Eoghan Murphy.

The parties reviewed the findings and recommendations contained in the preliminary report of the OSCE expert group published in January 2026.

The leaders of the NVB and NVI provided information on the current status of preparations for the 2026 general parliamentary election, the organisational and technical issues of the electoral process, and the guarantee elements for the transparency and legal conduct of the elections, NVI said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Analyst: Median falsified its own polls

Hungarian pollster Median "falsified its January polling data to shift votes from smaller opposition parties toward Tisza," Daniel Deak, lead analyst at the 21st Century Institute, said in a video posted on Facebook.

Deak said he was in possession of Median's actual January figures, which showed Tisza and Fidesz neck-and-neck at 36 percent, not the published 40 percent for Tisza and 33 percent for Fidesz.

"This is an unprecedented fraud..." he said, calling the manipulated polls a deliberate ploy to influence voters. He pledged to release the documents publicly soon.

The pro-government Civil Union Forum (CÖF) and its associated Civil Union Foundation (CÖKA) have officially announced a "Peace March" (Békemenet) to be held on the March 15 national holiday. The organization’s leader, László Csizmadia, confirmed on Tuesday that the police have been notified of the plans for the demonstration, which traditionally draws hundreds of thousands of supporters of the Orbán administration.
