With the Sun setting as the eclipse unfolds, the partially obscured Sun could create a striking sight low on Hungary's western horizon - provided the evening sky is clear.

The eclipse will be visible as a partial solar eclipse from Hungary, with the Moon covering a substantial portion of the Sun.

In Budapest, the eclipse begins at around 7:22pm and reaches its maximum at approximately 7:56pm, when the Sun will be very low in the western sky.

The further west you are in Hungary, the better the viewing conditions are likely to be, as the Sun sets slightly later. 

Wherever you watch from, an unobstructed view towards the western horizon will be essential. Buildings, trees and hills could easily block the view because of the Sun's very low position.

For those in Budapest, finding an open western vista will be particularly important. A high viewpoint is useful only if it also provides a clear view of the horizon.

The eclipse will not be total in Hungary, but around 60–70% of the Sun's diameter will be covered, depending on where you are in the country. This should make the event readily noticeable, provided skies are clear.

Anyone planning to watch is advised to use solar eclipse glasses or an appropriate solar filter. Ordinary sunglasses do not provide adequate protection, and binoculars or telescopes should never be pointed at the Sun without a suitable solar filter.

There is an added attraction for skywatchers later that evening: the Perseid meteor shower is also reaching its annual peak around this time. Once the Sun has disappeared, conditions will become suitable for looking towards the night sky for shooting stars.

For Budapest, the key times are:
Eclipse begins: approximately 7:22pm
Maximum eclipse: approximately 7:56pm
Eclipse ends: approximately 8:01pm

Because the Sun will be setting during the event, it is worth arriving at your chosen viewing spot in good time.

A clear western horizon and clear skies could turn Wednesday evening into one of the year's most unusual sunset experiences in Hungary.
