Video: Óbuda Nightclub Symbol Closed Over Drug Trafficking Allegations
One of Óbuda’s best-known nightlife venues, Symbol, has been ordered to close for two months following a police operation linked to drug distribution, according to Hungarian news outlet HVG. Police also reported that a guest was assaulted after refusing drugs offered to him inside the club.

Hungary’s National Bureau of Investigation recently carried out a joint operation with Polish authorities targeting a group accused of selling illegal substances in Budapest’s nightlife scene.

One of the four suspected dealers taken into custody and later placed under arrest – a 51-year-old man identified as Zsolt D. – was allegedly selling drugs at Symbol. As a result, the District III Police Headquarters ordered the venue to close for two months from 19 February 2026.

In a separate incident at the club on 15 February 2026, police say a violent altercation linked to drugs took place in the restroom. According to the official statement, a man offered a line of drugs to another guest who had gone there to use the facilities.

The suspect and his associates allegedly blocked the exit. When the guest refused the offer, the man who had proposed the drugs reportedly punched him twice in the face.

The alleged attacker, a 37-year-old former professional boxer, was taken into custody. A rapid drug test indicated the presence of multiple substances in his system. He has been questioned on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm, unlawful restraint and drug possession.

Police have initiated proceedings to place him under arrest.

As for the wider joint operation, investigators seized 16 kilograms of drugs across several locations. Four individuals were detained on suspicion of drug trafficking, while others are being investigated for possession.
