- 20 Feb 2026 7:26 AM
Auchan Magyarorszag will finance the new shops, with areas of between 70 and 150 square metres, with its own resources and in a franchise construction.
Auchan Magyarorszag will also upgrade its existing hypermarkets.
There are 19 Auchan hypermarkets, two superstores and three supermarkets in Hungary. The retailer also runs an automated shop, dubbed Auchan GO, in a pilot project.
Auchan Magyarorszag had turnover of HUF 542bn in 2025, the company said, citing preliminary data.
French-owned Auchan Group is the majority owner of Auchan Magyarorszag, but Hungarian property developer Indotek Group holds a minority stake with management rights.
Franchise-backed growth strategy to boost nationwide presence
Under its expansion strategy, Auchan plans to begin rolling out convenience stores of 70–150 sqm from 2027 in several phases.
The development will be funded primarily from the company’s own resources and supported by a franchise model.
At the same time, all 19 of its hypermarkets are set to be refurbished.
Auchan also operates two superstores, three supermarkets, one automated Auchan GO unit and 19 filling stations in Hungary.
The retailer has recently strengthened its online presence by installing refrigerated CoolBox parcel lockers at three downtown locations, operating 24/7.
Preliminary figures indicate that Auchan Hungary’s turnover climbed to HUF 542 billion in 2025.
In 2024, the Indotek Group, owned by billionaire businessman Dániel Jellinek, acquired a 47% stake in Auchan Hungary and its petrol station network, and became the sole owner of the Auchan Korzó retail parks.
