Danube Boating Season in Hungary Officially Begins
The Danube boating season is officially underway, with Mahart-Passnave announcing a fresh line-up of sightseeing cruises, scheduled services, and special events for 2026.

For those looking to escape the city, the Budapest-Szentendre sightseeing boat is already running, alongside the popular hop-on circular route connecting Visegrád, Nagymaros, and Zebegény.

Expats planning ahead for May 1st can look forward to expanded services to Esztergom and a dedicated Budapest-Szentendre-Visegrád route.

What’s New for 2026? Responding to the growing demand for social experiences on the water, a new “Prosecco & Aperitivo Spritz” cruise now departs three times a week. These one-hour trips launch from the pier at Batthyány Square 1, offering a stylish way to see the Parliament and city skyline.

A Surging Trend River travel is seeing a massive revival. According to Mahart-Passnave, passenger numbers on scheduled services more than doubled recently, jumping from 183,000 in 2024 to 413,000 in 2025.

This boom is largely credited to:

Increased Frequency:
More daily departures from central Budapest.
Dynamic Pricing: More flexible ticket options for regular commuters and tourists alike.
Regional Growth: While the capital remains the busiest hub (with 329,000 passengers), the Danube Bend also saw a steady rise to 84,000 travelers last year.

Whether you're looking for a romantic sunset spritz or a family day trip to the hills of northern Hungary, the river is officially open for the season. Note that high-speed hydrofoil services remain seasonal—check the latest schedules before heading to the pier.
