Is Repeal of Advertising Tax in Hungary 'the Most Shameful Part of a Pact Between Old Fidesz & New Fidesz, that is Tisza'?
The opposition Our Homeland party has asked President Tamas Sulyok not to sign a law that includes the repeal of Meta advertising tax, the deputy leader of the party's parliamentary group said on Sunday.

Előd Novák said in a statement that the party had asked Sulyok not to sign the 79-page law elevating emergency decrees to legal status, which includes the repeal of the Meta advertising tax.

Opposition Fidesz and ruling Tisza already passed the bill at the inaugural session of parliament with the four-fifths majority required to deviate from the rules of procedure.

Novak said that "in violation of the law," no vote had been called on Mi Hazank’s amendment proposal, nor were comments permitted.

He added that Fidesz had been rightly criticised in recent years for often rushing sensitive bills through parliament in a single day, but even under Fidesz rule, there had never been a precedent for a parliamentary group being denied the opportunity "to talk about a bill for even a single minute".

He said there had been no public debate on elevating the emergency regulations to law, and the 79-page bill had only been posted on the parlament.hu website three hours before the vote.

The repeal of the advertising tax is "the most shameful part of a pact between the old Fidesz and the new Fidesz, that is, the Tisza," he said, adding that it was a "decision to serve the Meta empire unconditionally".
