Slovakian PM Welcomes Continued Friendly Ties with Hungary & Reinforced Visegrád Cooperation
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini on Monday said he believes that friendly ties between Slovakia and Hungary will continue with Peter Magyar having been elected Hungarian premier.

According to Slovak news agency TASR, Pellegrini told reporters in Bratislava that he trusted that the two countries could resolve issues around the contested Benes Decrees, adding that he would do everything to ease possible tensions so that the two countries could return to a pragmatic cooperation.

He said he was certain that issues around the decrees and a relevant Slovak law would not escalate to become a major conflict between the two countries, and they could "find a technical solution or clarification", TASR said.

He said he believed that a technical solution could be found to avoid the confiscation of properties under the decrees, which were adopted 80 years ago.

Once the matter can be treated "at an entirely pragmatic and technical level", there will be no obstacles in the way of good ties between Slovakia and Hungary, he added.

Pellegrini also welcomed Magyar's remarks regarding the aim to reinforce the Visegrad cooperation.
