Special Powers Given to Finance Ministry in Hungary Due to Budget Deficit Situation
The government has granted the Finance Ministry special powers because of the significantly higher time-proportional budget deficit than the one in the adopted budget bill, a government resolution published in the official gazette Magyar Kozlony shows.

According to the resolution, the prior consent of the finance minister will be needed for all new budgetary commitments and appropriations exceeding HUF 250m and for all asset procurements above HUF 100m value.

Commitments and equipment purchases made by local and minority municipalities will be exempt, as well as state funding for commitments of those non-state organisations that provide public education, vocational training, higher education, social, healthcare or other public services.

State-owned companies MAV, Magyar Posta, MVM, MFB, EXIM, N7 Holding, NISZ, the Hungarian Tourism Agency and road maintenance company Magyar Kozut will need the prior approval of the minister for the appointment, assignment or dismissal of their financial or economic senior managers, the definition of their mandate, and the adoption of their annual business plans.

According to the resolution, concession contracts and PPP agreements involving the state may only be concluded, amended or terminated with the prior consent of the minister.

Meanwhile, Foreign minister: Ministry holds first staff meeting in 12 years

A staff assembly was called at the foreign ministry for the first time in 12 years on Thursday, the foreign minister has said on Facebook.

The foreign ministry will continue its work as an independent institution with a clear mission, Anita Orban said. She said the ministry would make a return to handling the professional and strategic tasks "which provided the strength of Hungarian diplomacy for decades".

The Hungarian Institute of International Affairs and the Information Office will once again operate under the ministry, she added.

"I thank every member of the Hungarian diplomatic service for their dedication to past and future challenges," Orban said.
