Urbán Erotika: Budapest's Bold New Contemporary Arts Fest
- 14 May 2026 2:44 PM
The festival started as a small exhibition in 2013 and now operates under the motto Freedom. Art. Education., combining visual arts, psychology, theatre and community events.
This year's program includes art therapy workshops, light installations, dance improvisation, theatre performances, lectures, literary evenings and a pub quiz - with many visual and participatory elements open to non-Hungarian speakers.
Gyuricza Gergely's JOY pop-art exhibition forms the core, featuring paintings that explore desire, physicality and eroticism as an "antidote to death." The works, painted from memory, use vivid colours to examine identity and resilience. Gallery entry remains free.
Over two weeks, the schedule covers art therapy sessions, sensory light installations, dance improvisation and theatre alongside Hungarian-language lectures, readings and quizzes.
