Why Tisza is Returning Donation by Businessman Waberer
The Tisza Party will return a donation of 100 million forints (EUR 275,000) to businessman Gyorgy Waberer, Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar, the leader of the election winning party, said on Facebook on Friday.

According to Magyar, the businessman only sent the sum to Tisza party five days prior to the April 12 election, maintaining that there was "no money whatever earlier."

Waberer said on commercial ATV on Thursday that he had been a Tisza supporter for a year and a half.

Tisza seeks to avoid "even a seeming association with business people/oligarchs of either side or the assumption that anyone could gain benefits with reference to the party," Magyar said, adding that the sum would be transferred back to Waberer on Monday.

Magyar said he was proud that "everything around Tisza including financing the party has been legitimate and transparent". Should Tisza in future receive "any legally or morally objectionable request in return for material support" or if they see that a donor "seeks benefits", the party will similarly refund a donation, Magyar added.

The incoming PM said his party will present an account of the donations it had received by the deadline stipulated by law and "publish the names of all people donating more than 500,000 forints."
