Why Younger Sister of Incoming PM Magyar Will Suspend Judicial Practice
The younger sister of Prime Minister-elect Peter Magyar, also the wife of incoming Minister of Justice Marton Mellethei-Barna, will suspend her judicial practice during the government position of her brother and husband, Magyar announced on Friday.

Speaking about the operating principles of the Tisza government, Magyar said that the situation, which has caused concern among many people, that there is a family relationship between a government member and the prime minister, "caused a serious dilemma" for him as well.

Magyar said he has known Marton Mellethei-Barna since his years at university and the basis for his appointment was his preparedness and commitment to the rule of law.

He said that the Mellethei-Barna has been a member of the regime change movement since February 2024, from the very first minute, and only "tied his life with my sister long after joining our community". He said that for this reason, he considers it particularly important that the future minister carry out his work with the greatest possible openness and that all his decisions be transparent.

"Fidesz destroyed the rule of law. The principle of legal certainty and equality before the law have disappeared in Hungary. To restore everything, I was looking for a person who is capable of carrying out this enormous, historic task, and whose professional qualifications are unquestionable," Magyar said.

The prime minister-elect said strict rules will be introduced regarding the operation of the new government. Ministerial decisions will be transparent, conflicts of interest will be handled publicly, and these rules will apply to everyone, including the PM.

Following the formation of the new parliament, the first step will be to submit a law on the National Asset Recovery and Protection Office.

This office will act with a legal mandate to recover illegally acquired public assets and will ensure that the protection of public assets is not a matter of political will in the future, but an institutionally guaranteed fundamental principle.
