Scan & Go shopping in Hungary Launched by Lidl in Budapest test scheme
Lidl Hungary has introduced a Scan & Go system in a pilot phase across three stores, allowing customers to scan products with their mobile phones while shopping and place them directly into a virtual basket.

The system operates through the Lidl Plus app, where selected items are added to a digital cart in real time. Payment is completed at self-checkout, where customers finalise their purchase by scanning a QR code generated in the app.

According to Hungarian retail reports, the trial is currently running in three locations: the Huszti út store in Budapest, the Károly király út store in Budaörs, and the Gém utca store in Monor.

The retailer has also implemented security measures as part of the pilot, including random in-store checks and mandatory age verification for products such as alcohol and other restricted goods.

Lidl Hungary will assess customer feedback and operational performance before deciding whether to expand the system to additional stores nationwide.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce checkout waiting times and align shopping processes with international digital retail trends.
