Shooting Range in Budapest Shut Down After Years of Complaints
- 10 Jul 2026 7:48 AM
The shooting range, located on a site owned by the Hungarian State Railways (MAV), had long been a source of complaints from residents, who said the noise from gunfire disturbed their peace, prevented rest, and caused distress, particularly for the elderly.
Despite repeated requests from the local council, the facility continued to operate in defiance of municipal regulations and noise ordinances.
In a Facebook post, Katai-Nemeth said the owner had finally terminated the shooting range's contract, meaning residents would regain their peace after July 31.
The Ministry of Transport and Investment confirmed that the decision followed pressure from both the ministry and the local mayor, Krisztina Baranyi, who had previously been unable to secure the closure despite her efforts.
Baranyi thanked local activists and residents for their persistent advocacy, noting that their years of work had finally led to the resolution.
She added that she had been scheduled to meet Interior Minister Gabor Posfai to discuss police intervention, but this was no longer necessary.
