Keszthely Dance Panorama, Lake Balaton, 10 - 12 September
- 1 Sep 2026 8:40 AM
From children’s shows and folk performances to Argentine tango, film screenings and free open-air events, the programme offers something for everyone at one of the summer’s finest cultural highlights.
A Festival for All Ages
Year after year, the Keszthely Dance Panorama shows just how broadly dance can speak. Over the festival’s three days, audiences from the very youngest to seasoned adults are sure to find performances that hold their attention.
Contemporary dance, folk traditions, Argentine tango, film screenings and open-air discussions await visitors, while the festival’s lively atmosphere spills out into the streets and squares of Keszthely itself.
Péter Ertl, director of the National Dance Theatre, puts it simply: “If it’s September, then it’s Keszthely.” In more than two decades, the Dance Panorama has become one of the key meeting points in the Hungarian dance scene.
“It’s a pleasure to see that, year after year, both the audience and industry professionals come here with the same curiosity and enthusiasm,” he says.
Opening Weekend: From Fairy Tales to National Portraits
The festival kicks off on 10 September with the Székesfehérvár Ballet Theatre’s production of Pinocchio. This contemporary dance-theatre adaptation of the well-known fairy tale combines delicate storytelling with striking visuals to explore timeless questions about what it means to become human. It’s a show designed to engage children and adults alike.
Also on the opening day, the National Dance Theatre will screen its large-scale promotional film, 30 Shades of Dance. Featuring thirty Hungarian dance companies, the production was filmed at iconic locations around the country and uses movement to showcase the richness and diversity of Hungarian dance.
Celebrating Regional Heritage
On 11 September, the Danube Art Company presents Partium – From the Creek to the Ocean, a performance celebrating the cultural heritage of the Partium region. This vibrant folk-dance production brings to life the traditions of various ethnic groups and highlights the area’s diverse identity through music, costume and choreography.
Tango, Relationships and Self-Discovery
A different world opens up on the festival’s final day. The Argentine Tango Dance Theatre presents the dance drama EXISTENCE, which uses the passionate yet intimate language of tango to tell a story about human relationships, the search for one’s path and the moment of finding one another.
Free Events in the Heart of Keszthely
Alongside the ticketed theatre performances, a series of free accompanying events will once again welcome visitors.
On the evening of 12 September, in Keszthely’s Main Square, Léna Megyeri and Ádám Bősze will present Lábujjhegyen – Zenéről és táncról, párban (On Tiptoe – About Music and Dance, in Pairs). In a direct and entertaining format, they reveal behind-the-scenes secrets of the worlds of dance and music.
The Keszthely Dance Panorama offers more than just performances: it creates shared experiences, three days during which dance genuinely brings artists and audiences closer together.
