Buda Castle District to Hold Referendum on Airbnb Rentals
- 1 Sep 2026 10:44 AM
District mayor Laszlo Borocz said they want to preserve the district as a vibrant, lovable residential area, while also recognising that tourism and short-term housing rental are important to many people and local businesses.
Residents above the age of 18 will be able to vote on two questions, one asking about the complete ban of Airbnb rentals, the second asking that if such rentals are allowed, should the municipal council set out criteria for offering short-term rental accommodations.
The municipal council said that there are currently more than 400 licensed private accommodations in the district, and that the legal moratorium on registering new short-term accommodation facilities expires at the end of the year.
