Disability Benefits in Hungary to Rise by 10%

Hungary's government will increase disability benefits by 10 percent and raise benefits for those over 65 with reduced work capacity to at least 120,000 forints (EUR 325), similar to the minimum pension, Prime Minister Peter Magyar said. He also announced plans for a two-phase pay rise for social workers and teaching assistants.
Addressing a regular government press briefing, Magyar said the measures will provide significant support to an additional 238,000 people.
He added that these benefits, formerly known as disability pensions, are tiered according to the degree of reduced work capacity, years of employment, and age.
The prime minister said details on how the increase will apply to each tier will be announced soon.
He also said the government is planning a two-phase pay rise for social workers and teaching assistants, with the first increase set for mid-October and the second from January 2027.
Magyar said the Tisza government had inherited a "completely drained" budget and social system from the previous administration, adding, however, that it had not forgotten its earlier commitment to a 25 percent pay rise for social workers, including child protection workers and teaching assistants.
The cabinet will make a decision on the timetable of the two-phase wage increase shortly, he said.
The prime minister said social workers could rely on the Tisza government, which would provide them with full professional, moral, and financial support.
