Xpat Interview: James Brennan
In January 2009, James Brennan was appointed Country Manager for Reed Specialist Recruitment. Responsible for providing niche specialist services from Finance, IT, Marketing to (BPO) Business Process Outsourcing, a growing trend in CEE and onsite (RPO) Recruitment Process Outsourcing. Reed was established in 1960, and their expertise stretches over 400 offices globally with more than 4000 staff.

James was born and raised in Liverpool, and this has strongly influenced him with his down to earth roots, love of music and passion for sports, all great traditions in that historical city. His passion to meet different people, led him to travel the far reaches of South East Asia, spending years in New Zealand and Australia and travelling across Europe before meeting his long term Hungarian girlfriend ,Zsuzsanna Krar in London. Zsuszi obviously proved very influential !!!

Since arriving here in January, James is committed to learning the language and building long lasting business and personal relationships, and hopes his enthusiasm and passion is something that will be infectious amongst everyone he meets.

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
January 09, Reed Specialist recruitment offered me an amazing opportunity to live here, and my girlfriend is Hungarian.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
Yes, New Zealand, and Australia

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
How expensive it is to buy clothes. You just don't

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
Stay in my apartment and wonder at my high ceilings, and a visit to Szimpla Bar.

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
Húsleves (Meat soup) Home made Mama style

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Fresh vegatables and Orange juice

7.What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Like Every Englishman, Egészégedre

8. What do you miss most from home?
Shopping for clothes, Liverpool FC, and obviously Family and friends

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Tennis Coach for underprivaleged kids (I nearly was)

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Hungarian Policeman, have you seen the Uniform

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Barcelona (I never tire of the city)

12. Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
Croatia

13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
James (The Band), Monthy Python Life of Brian, and tennis/football

14. What can't you resist?
That would be telling,

15. Red wine or white?
Red, absolutely

16. Book or movie?
I want to say book, but Movie, Slumdog Millionairre is fantastic

17. Morning person or night person?
Night person

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Homeless people and animals in this city, it breaks my heart every day

19. Buda or Pest side?
Pest, because its all about the people

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
He who dares, wins!!!!! I believe if you never take a risk, you will never live
