Victoria Picknell is a media relations professional who’s recently arrived in Budapest after a summer spent working on the London 2012 Games.

Her career has taken her from the glitzy studios of the BBC’s television centre in London to tracking poachers on elephant back in Nepal.

She normally spends her spare time playing football and volunteering, but is currently trying to get her head around Hungarian grammar.

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
Two weeks ago, my boyfriend’s job.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
No, I am a complete novice.

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
Its history.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
Take a trip to Memento Park, a dip in Gellért Spa and sip (of Unicum) at Szimpla Kert.

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
Gerbeaud cake.

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Milk – you can’t make a good cup of tea without it.

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Macska.

8. What do you miss the most from home?
The weather.

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Peacekeeper.

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
A night-shift motorway maintenance worker.

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
The French Alps.

12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
Vienna.

13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet, for obvious reasons.

14. What can't you resist?
Any form of cake.

15. Red wine or white?
Rosé.

16. Book or movie?
Book, because you can’t get lost in a good film.

17. Morning person or night person?
Increasingly a night person.

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Democracy.

19. Buda side or Pest side?
Pest is best..!

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Always look on the bright side of life.
