Julian Hartley is a Graphic Designer / Photographer based in Budapest for the last 14 years.



Single Dad Julian is usually found playing in Normafa with his 5 year old daughter, or wandering back streets of Budapest taking pictures of old signs and crumbling buildings.

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?

14 years ago, I came for the love of a woman, then fell in love with the city too.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
Briefly in Venice.

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
The summer weather. Before I came here I had no idea how gorgeous the summers in this region are.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
Get blotto in a Rom-Kocsma (ruin pub), and nurse the hangover in a spa.

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
A good gulyás is hard to beat.

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Lime pickle.

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Hihetetlen (Unbelievable).

8. What do you miss the most from home?
My youth.

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Travel photographer

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?

Politician

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Komiza on the island of Vis in Croatia.

12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
Somewhere hot by the sea.

13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Band: Sugar Film: Loved Breakfast at Tiffany's

14. Apart of temptation what can't you resist?
A cold beer

15. Red wine or white?
Red in winter, white in summer.

16. Book or movie?
Movie, I am a film addict.

17. Morning person or night person?
I believe in balance - so both.

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Racism

19. Buda side or Pest side?
Live in Buda, drink in Pest.

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Be positive and go with the flow.
