Spanish Carrier Iberia Launches Budapest-Madrid Direct Flight

The Spanish carrier Iberia has launched its direct Madrid-Budapest flight on Tuesday morning, with the first flight’s 95 passengers being greeted at the airport by Hungary’s ambassador to the Spanish capital. The new flight will operate between 2 June until the end of October twice a week, with two flights serving the route on Tuesdays and Thursdays but none on Mondays and Fridays.
Budapest Airport Reports Record Traffic

Budapest Airport registered an annual 10.8% increase in traffic last month, with 840,486 passengers arriving and departing from the facility, an all-time high for the month of April. The rise in traffic was twice that of the EU average. In the first four months, passenger traffic increased 12.1% year-on-year, while airlines reported average seat occupancy of 78.8%.

A record of almost two million passengers departed from Budapest Airport’s terminals in the first three months of the year, with London being the most popular destination. The increase of traffic had accelerated at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport despite January, February and March traditionally being the weakest months of the year.

A new Hungarian airline company under the name of Veritas should have been operational ten months before the Malév bankruptcy. However, this did not happen as state investors intentionally delayed the star while Malév was consuming an enormous amount of state funds recently published inside documents reveal about the 2012 Malév-case.
