150 years ago on 17 November 1873, the city of Budapest was established by the unification of Pest, Buda and Óbuda. The origins of Budapest can be traced to the 4th century BC when the Celts occupied parts of Hungary. It was later conquered by the Roman Empire, which established the town of Aquincum around AD 100 on the site of today's city of Budapest.
