36 Embassies Back Budapest Pride Ahead of Parade on Saturday

The signatories reaffirmed their support for the rights of LGBTQI+ people in Hungary and worldwide, standing for dignity, equality, non-discrimination, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, in line with international human rights law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The statement was signed by countries including Austria, Belgium, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Poland, as well as cultural institutes such as Germany's Goethe Institute, Spain's Cervantes Institute, the French Institute and the Polish Institute.
The signatories recognised the vital contributions of LGBTQI+ individuals, human rights activists, civil society and community organisations in promoting inclusion, mutual respect and equal opportunity in Hungary in recent years.
They described Budapest Pride as a key expression of the fundamental values of free speech, unity and peaceful assembly, as demonstrated by last year's record attendance.
"Together, we reaffirm our shared commitment to fairness, respect and inclusion for every person," the statement said. "We look forward to celebrating this on June 27."
Joint Statement on the occasion of the 31st Budapest Pride Festival
"On the occasion of the 31st Budapest Pride Festival, we, the undersigned Embassies and Cultural Institutes, reaffirm our support for the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) people in Hungary and around the world.
We stand for dignity, equality and non-discrimination, as well as the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, in line with international human rights law and the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
We welcome the new Government’s affirmation that Hungary will be home for every Hungarian, and that everyone can feel they have a place in the Hungarian nation.
We stand ready to support all efforts to ensure the right of everyone, including LGBTQI+ people, to live free from discrimination, violence and prejudice.
We recognise the important contributions of LGBTQI+ individuals, human rights defenders, civil society and community organisations in defending inclusion, mutual respect and equal opportunities for all in Hungary over recent years.
Budapest Pride remains an important expression of the core values of freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly, demonstrated by last year’s record participation.
Together, we reaffirm our shared commitment to fairness, respect and inclusion for all people. We look forward to celebrating this on 27 June.
