Michelin-starred, Gault Millau, and Dining Guide awarded Onyx is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Since opening its doors in March 2007, Onyx has recieved a good number of awards, but their biggest honour is their always smiling clientele, said Executive Director Katalin Pintér.

President János Áder presented Hungary’s state orders as well as the prestigious Kossuth and Széchenyi prizes to recognise public personalities, artists and scientists on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1848 revolution in Parliament. In his address to the awardees, the president highlighted their achievements, which he said could “motivate many to come up with better results”.

The opening and closing ceremonies of this summer’s World Aquatics Championships will cost Ft 3.8 billion, it emerges from the public procurement bulletin Közbeszerzési Értesítõ. The ceremonies will be held outside the Várkert Bazár on the Buda riverbank.

Hungarian-born American Nobel laureate chemist George Olah has died, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences said. Olah, who died in Beverly Hills at the age of 89, received the 1994 Nobel Prize in Chemistry “for his contribution to carbocation chemistry”, the academy said.

“Strangled”, a film based on the real story of a murder in post-1956 Hungary, won Best Feature Film at the closing gala of the Hungarian Film Week on Sunday. The film is based on the story of the bloody murder of a woman in 1957 and the investigation obstructed by the Communist regime in postrevolution Hungary.
