This is not the first time the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company have been featured at the Spring Festival, or have performed with a symphonic orchestra. Following their cooperation with the Hungarian National Philharmonic for a production of The Wooden Prince, with choreography by Tamás Juronics, the company now appear with the Pannon Philharmonic.

The first marathon at the Palace of Arts in 2008 showcased the works of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The series of 11 concerts on a single day covered a cross-section of the great master's ouevre and exceeded all expectations with its unique theme and atmosphere. In the years that followed, the organisers put together marathon programmes of the work of Dvořák, Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart and Bartók.

The emblematic orchestral works of the late Romantic period, Richard Strauss’s symphonic poems, and the symphonies of Bruckner and Mahler all enjoy a special place in the repertoire of the Hungarian National Philharmonic. Mahler’s Symphony No. 7 is also known as the Song of the Night because of its two distinctive Nachtmusik movements.
