Béla Bartók and Polish culture will be central elements of the Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival held between Oct. 7 and 23, the head of the organising committee said. The festival, the largest of its kind in central and eastern Europe, will also feature events commemorating the 60th anniversary of Hungary’s 1956 anti-Soviet revolution, Csaba Káel said.

Hungarian and international musicians will pay their respects to composer and pianist György Kurtág to celebrate his 90th birthday at a week-long festival starting on Sunday. The Kurtág 90 festival organised by the Budapest Music Center (BMC) will be held between February 14 and 21.

Four high profile improvisers of the Dutch jazz and improv scene have teamed up and formed ESTAFEST. In this unusual line up, these musicians combine their distinctive instrumental skills and sound, wrapped up in brilliant short pieces, which are shaped on stage. The chamber opera is based on Sławomir Mrożek’s identically named absurd one-act, though András Almási-Tóth puts the story of people, stuck on boat at sea, onto present day by using the well-known phenomenon of a villa in a reality-show or “survival” show.

The trio formed in 2011 from students of the Liszt Academy of Music with the aim of experimenting, stretching the possibilities of jazz, sometimes with traditional or jazz fusion, sometimes with the equipments of free music. In this year at 'Talentometer', in the Jazz genre they achieved first prize.
