No decision has been made on whether to introduce a congestion charge in Budapest, the city’s mayor said at a session of the municipal assembly. István Tarlós said no decision had been made concerning either the extent of the zone or the fee. He said efforts were being made in Brussels to “fend off” any requirement to introduce a congestion charge.

Since 1 March 2015 twenty-eight brand new, diesel-powered hybrid buses are in operation in Budapest, and with that it is one of the largest diesel-electric bus fleets of Europe. In the framework of the vehicle stock development project launched as part of the programme of Mayor István Tarlós, hybrid buses are oprated along lines 5, 7, and 9 during all the week round since 1st March.
