This year’s WOMEX world music festival wound up with an awards ceremony at the Palace of Arts in Budapest. The Artist Award went to Cheikh Lo, a Senegalese musician. The Professional Excellence Award was presented to Ramin Sadighi, a promoter of Iranian music through his label Hermes Records. Glitterbeat took the Label Award, for the second year in a row.

Until I came to this sensational exhibition at the Ludwig Museum I didn’t know I liked Pop Art. Basically I only knew Warhol’s Campbell Soup and Lichtenstein’s comic strips which are here as well, but I was unprepared for the arresting impact of this huge collection of art works whose artistic quality, it seems to me, outweighs what they call in marketing meetings here the “Vow Effect”.
Palace Of Arts To Be Called Müpa Budapest

The establishment, called The Palace of Arts since its March 2005 opening, will start the new season at the end of August under the new name of Müpa Budapest. To reflect this change in name, Müpa Budapest will also have a new logo from the 2015/16 season.

An 8 tonne steel sculpture by renowned French contemporary artist Bernar Venet was unveiled in central Budapest. Arcs in Disorder can be viewed in March 15 Square near Elizabeth Bridge. The artist told news agency MTI at the unveiling that he originally planned to display Arcs in southern France, but decided on Budapest instead, given the “prominent” spot on offer.
