The first verdict meted out for denial of the Holocaust has become final yesterday as the Budapest Court upheld a lower court ruling. A court last June 12 sentenced the 42-year-old defendant to an 18-month prison term, suspended for three years, and ordered him placed under supervision of a probation officer.

Terminal 1 at Budapest Airport has reopened, four months after its closure, after an event center has been established in the empty passenger terminal. As previously envisaged, Budapest Airport decided to maintain the condition of the valuable building, which will thus be put to use once again. The Terminal 1 Airport Event Center will host corporate and private events as of 1 October.

I wanted to write about the national holiday, August 20, St. Stephen’s Day, but something else came up. Another incident of Gypsy-baiting. This time in Cegléd, a town not far from Kecskemét and Szolnok, about 70 km south of Budapest. It has a population of 38,000 with a fairly large Roma population that lives on the outskirts of the town.
