A promenade was named after Hungarian-born former US Congressman Tom Lantos in Budapest on Monday in a ceremony marking the politician’s birthday. The promenade named after Lantos connects Viza and Révész streets. Addressing the event in the 13th district where Lantos used to live, US Ambassador Colleen Bell said Lantos had done much to benefit Hungary and had been proud of being Hungarian.

Hungarian director László Nemes accepted the Best Foreign Language Film prize for his movie Son of Saul at the Golden Globe awards ceremony on Sunday night in Los Angeles. The concentration camp drama is the first Hungarian production to win the award. The Golden Globes, selected by the Los Angeles Film Critics Circle, are considered second in importance only to the Oscars.

The economy minister signed a financing agreement with Budapest’s public transport company BKV, under which 20 Hungarian-made electric midibuses and the necessary charger technology will be purchased. Addressing the ceremony, Mihály Varga hailed the beginning of a “new era” in the city’s transport, benefiting “the people of Budapest, Hungarian industry and busmaking”.
First 56-Meter-Long CAF Trams Will Start Operating In Budapest Next Spring

The 56 meter long CAF trams are expected to start running on line nr 1 next spring. Tram drivers are already practising to drive it on simulators. Deputy Mayor Balázs Szeneczey explained during the ceremony that the new, Spanish-made tram is the longest one in the world, it has 86 seats and its passenger capacity is 345.
