Preparations Begin For Latest Reduction In Public Utility Charges In Hungary

The Workgroup on reducing public utility charges including gas and electricity, water, sewage, refuse collection and chimney sweeping, held its first session yesterday. According to Mayor of Debrecen Lajos Kósa, a member of the Workgroup and Vice President of the Fidesz party, the goal is a 10 percent reduction, although the position of service providers must also be taken into consideration.

Budapest holds its annual car-free weekend this Saturday and Sunday, banning vehicular traffic from the entire length of Andrássy út, the Chain Bridge and other major roads. Napfény utca in the Ninth District and Ferihegyi út in the 17th District will also be closed to traffic.
