Hungary’s central bank remains biased to ease its monetary policy further, as gradual forint depreciation is seen as net positive for growth in Hungary, London-based emerging markets economists at JP Morgan said in a report highlighting key findings of a recent trip to Budapest. A 10% forint depreciation boosted exports by 2%, notwithstanding the 80% imported content of exports, they said.

Hungary’s Interior Minister Returns Antique Maps Stolen From France

Hungary’s interior minister on Tuesday presented to the French ambassador 110 maps printed in the 16-18th centuries, which had been stolen in France and then recovered in Hungary. The maps, cut out of books, were stolen from the Library of Toulouse in 2012 and were discovered in the same year in a car near Győr in north-western Hungary, according to national police.

The Benkó Dixieland Band (founded: 1957) is one of the best jazz formations in the world and certainly the most popular in Hungary. Their international career took off in the 1960s when they started playing in neighbouring countries before they went on to conquer the whole world, and today they are termed the roving ambassadors of Hungarian and New Orleans jazz.
