The number of drug addicts is not Hungary’s main problem; rather that around 350,000 take some kind of mind-altering substance on an average weekend, a toxicology expert told Saturday’s Magyar Nemzet. There are 20,000 drug addicts in Hungary. But there are around 60,000 people dependent on tranquilisers or sleeping pills, said Gábor Zacher, the new head of Honvéd Hospital’s emergency unit.

Hungary’s central bank has room to cut interest rates to as low as 2.5%, and while it said in December that it could slow the pace of easing, this is not a done deal, one of the bank’s deputy governors, Ádám Balog, said on Thursday.

MOL will cut the price of the 95 octane petrol by 4 HUF on Wednesday - Portfolio.hu reports. Following the cut, average prices for petrol should be in the 401-402 HUF range, while diesel will sell for 420-421 a litre.
