A new pay-by-phone parking system was introduced throughout Hungary on July 1. The system is operated as a state monopoly by Nemzeti Mobilfizetési Zrt. The new service is available to anyone and anywhere under the same terms. Drivers can choose to make payments directly to Nemzeti Mobilfizetési or via Magyar Telekom, Telenor, Vodafone, Mpark, Evopay and Sense/Net Zrt.

Over 100 residential buildings and 20 public buildings have been damaged and several tens of thousands of people are without electricity as a consequence of gale-force winds that continued throughout Hungary on Thursday, the disaster management authority said. Most damage was caused in roofs and chimneys and trees fell over air cables in many places.

The Budapest Public Transport Company (BKV) plans to lay off one fourth, about 900 of its bus drivers this year, daily Népszabadság said on Tuesday. The paper said that 320 of the drivers would be taken over by the state-owned long-distance bus company Volánbusz.
