Budapest Taxis Often Fail To Follow Rules
Since new taxi regulations came into force in September 2013, some 3,782 taxis have been inspected and in 25% of the cases failed to meet technical requirements, the Budapest transport centre BKK found.

While monitoring the services offered by taxis, inspectors checked 5,503 passenger rides openly and further 6,579 covertly between September 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014. As a result, in 364 cases the inspection resulted in taxi licences being revoked because the drivers did not have contracts to use taxi stands.

In 1,711 cases no receipts were given to passengers, and in 585 cases exorbitant fares were charged.

In 91 cases, the taxis were found to have no licence at all.
