Fixed capital investments in Hungary were up 4.6% year-on-year in the second quarter, the Central Statistics Office announced, the first such increase in six years. Analysts’ polled by Napi Gazdaság had forecast a 6% drop, on average, after the 8.7% decline in the first quarter.

Parliament on Monday amended a 2011 law on education to reflect the fact that the government will raise teachers’ salaries by only 60% of the originally planned amount from September. The new law abolishes overtime pay and raises the number of mandatory teaching hours from 22 to 26 each week.

The world famous International Peto Institute for teaching physically disabled children is on the verge of bankruptcy, according to reports. Annual revenues have fallen from Ft 2.2 billion to Ft 1.5 billion, and the institute is losing Ft 20 million each month.
