Brussels Migration Policy 'Suicide', Says Hungarian FM

In today's age of dangers, one of the main challenges was illegal immigration, Szijjarto told a joint press conference after talks with Sudanese counterpart Mohi El-Din Salem, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the effects of which could be felt by everyone in western Europe.
He said that Brussels' migration policy was "suicidal" and it had led to a dramatic deterioration in the security situation in Europe.
"Parallel societies have emerged in the western half of the continent, a vocal minority dominates the communities living there, and the threat of terrorism is growing (...) All this is the result of Brussels not wanting to stop the waves of migration, but rather to manage them," he said.
Szijjarto said Brussels was making a huge mistake by "failing to grasp the serious challenges facing Africa," as the continent's population is set to grow by around one billion over the next 25 years.
"If we do not launch comprehensive programmes aimed at developing the African economy and improving the health and education systems, there could be two sad consequences: either the greatest humanitarian catastrophe of all time in Africa, or the greatest migration pressure of all time in Europe," he said.
He cited Sudan as a "sad example", as the armed conflict raging in the country had left some 40 million people in need of immediate care and humanitarian aid, and millions had been forced to flee their homes.
He urged Brussels to finally take note of the catastrophic situation in Sudan, emphasising that if this does not happen, tens of millions more could set off for Europe, and in that case nothing would stop them from reaching Hungary's southern border.
"We Hungarians have already done our part and are ready to continue doing so in the future. We have already contributed by helping to transport 10,000 tons of grain from Ukraine to Sudan. We are ready to contribute to the humanitarian crisis with further food deliveries, and we are ready to contribute to the prevention of serious infectious diseases with health and medical equipment," he said.
He added that Hungary was ready to expand its scholarship program, as currently 25 Sudanese students can study at Hungarian universities each year, but more than 500 have applied this year.
"We are ready to help Sudan by expanding this programme so that, after peace is restored, it can achieve long-term stability and avoid becoming the starting point for new waves of migration to Europe. Migration should not be managed, but rather its root causes should be eliminated," he said.
