In the evening of 20 August, the day that marks the anniversary of the foundation of the Hungarian State, more than half a million people watched the ceremonial fireworks display held on the Danube Banks. The ceremonial events attracted much attention and were held in high spirits; thousands of tourists were able to share the festive atmosphere of one of Hungary’s greatest national holidays.

Glastonbury’s founder, Michael Eavis was amongst the 379 thousand visitors, generously praising Sziget for being even more colourful than his own event. The week-long Sziget Festival staged its closing events on Sunday.It attracted approximately 380 000 visitors in its 20th jubilee year, with 50 percent of these coming from outside Hungary. In addition to the numerous music events, the festival hosted a number of government organisations at its ‘Civil Village’.
