The radical nationalist Jobbik party has fined one of its lawmakers for staying away from a vote in parliament which requires a two-thirds supermajority to pass and will do the same for any lawmaker who stays away from such votes in future, the party’s leader said.

Lawmakers approved on Thursday the third law on reducing public utility bills for households. The law tabled by Fidesz’s parliamentary leader Antal Rogán passed in a vote of 298 to 7 with 5 abstentions. Under the law, the price of gas will fall by 6.5% from April while the price of electricity will be cut by 5.7% from September. District heating will be cut by 3.3% from October this year.

Tax office NAV is scrutinising packages shipped within Hungary that contain tobacco products in an effort to crack down on the illegal tobacco market, NAV said on its Facebook page. NAV said it had seized more than one and a half tonnes of illegal tobacco products worth some 20 million forints (EUR 67,000).
