Court Issues Mega Fine to Vodafone Hungary
Hungary’s highest court, the Kúria, has ruled that Vodafone has to pay Ft 932 million in fines to the competition watchdog GVH, ending a legal procedure of more than seven years’ duration.

The GVH fined the mobile operator Ft 1.2 billion in 2016 for misleading consumers by claiming it had the biggest 4G network in Europe.

After Vodafone challenged the ruling, a court found in May 2021 that the company had made unfair claims, but ordered the GVH to recalculate the fine.

In a repeated procedure, Vodafone waived its right to appeal and accepted GVH’s assessment, after which its fine was reduced to Ft 932 million.
