To get a good deal at the Ecseri Flea Market located in the 19th District of Budapest you need to bargain. Of course you can do it easily by some skilful pantomime. However, if you utter a few Hungarian words like TÚL SOK (pronounced like ’tool shock’, meaning ’too much’), the crafty vendors will take you more seriously under the shock of being addressed in Hungarian.

Budaörs is not a very charismatic place. We usually drive through it with blinkers on our way to Ikea. And yet it has a very ancient history, going back to the Bronze Age 3.500 years ago. Since then it was occupied by the Celts and the Romans and, at the beginning of the 1800’s, it was repopulated by what Wikipedia quaintly calls Schwabian peasants.

By We Love Budapest: First of all, why do we call fairs and bazaar filled with antique and used goods flea markets? The term comes from the French expression 'marché aux puces' which was first used in Paris to describe bazaars selling old, secondhand items.
