"Staying in Hungary is completely safe, experts reassure travellers to Budapest. The rupture of the red sludge reservoir in Hungary has caused a localised emergency situation afflicting three villages 160 km from the capital, Budapest. The dam burst poses no threat at all to anyone planning to travel to Budapest or stay elsewhere in Hungary.

"The British Embassy together with the Raoul Wallenberg Association organised a ceremony on 15 October at which a plaque was unveiled commemorating the courageous efforts of Raoul Wallenberg. "The red mud spill had reached the main branch of the Danube through the Rába and the Mosoni-Danube by noon Thursday, Disaster Management spokesman Tibor Dobson announced yesterday. The aim is to lower the pH value of the water from nine to eight as soon as possible, he told Inforádió.
