Swimming Federation Backs Gyárfás

The Hungarian Swimming Federation’s annual general meeting gave a vote of confidence in president Tamás Gyárfás with 118 affirmative votes, against only one dissension and one abstention on Sunday. Gyárfás said in a speech to the gathering that no matter how unfair he considers the attacks of recent weeks, he feels that he must tolerate the slaps and cannot hide as his responsibility is so large.

The head of the Anti-Terrorist Centre, János Hajdu, yesterday ordered that the streets around the National Museum be closed on March 15, when Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will give a speech in the museum garden. The decision affects the area where the Civil Society for the Democratic Hungary announced a demonstration on Múzeum körút on that day.

The Hungarian Scientists Club was formally opened at the Hungarian embassy in London on Friday. Undersecretary Péter Prõhle and ambassador Péter Szabadhegy delivered opening speeches.
