Speeches were made by sports state secretary Tünde Szabó and Éva Szántó, head of event organiser executive of BP2017.
Szabó said hosting the FINA world championships is a success of sports diplomacy that will confirm the wisdom of the government’s decision to boost the reputation and success of Hungarian sport by directly funding sports, upgrading sports facilities and providing special support to international events.
The summer tournament will be seen by nearly six billion people, boosting Budapest’s appeal to tourists, Szántó claimed.
The swimming and diving tournament starts on July 14.
