Nobel laureate author Imre Kertész died at age 86 after a long and serious illness, the publisher Magvető said. The novelist, essayist and translator was the first Hungarian to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, becoming a Nobel laureate in 2002.

Zoltán Balog told the event that 4 percent of the Hungarian budget is devoted to providing financial support for families as against the European average of 2.5 percent.

Zoltán Balog said that it is “our duty to liberate the huge reserves of power” in Roma culture “to serve our common future.” He said Hungarians by now had no excuse not to be aware of the “dreadful tragedy” of the Roma Holocaust.
