In the wake of a global crisis positive emotions seem out of place. For the moment, perhaps we should forget about feeling good altogether, and simply find ways to cope. Yet scientific research on positive emotions suggests that feeling good is far more important than many people suspect. Positive emotions do much more than merely signal well-being.

Before Monday, 1 March, my only connection with the little country in the southwestern UK was a joke t-shirt I once had with the logo 'Save the Wales' emblazoned across its chest. And I watched the Welsh rugby side beat England at Twickenham a few years ago. Otherwise, nothing. So I was flattered to be recently invited to the first ever St. David’s Day celebration here in Budapest.

British Ambassador to Hungary Mr. Greg Dorey (pictured), guest of honour at this XpatLoop.com event, started proceedings with an informative and entertaining speech about this UK tradition, aka Guy Fawkes Night, to a packed house at the local InterContinental Hotel.
