By Anne Zwack: There are people who have been living all their lives in Budapest who have never even been to the Csepel Island. The reasons for this are obscure as the centre of Csepel is ten minutes drive from the Palace of Arts. The island was the first stopping place for the invading Magyars and is called Csepel after Arpad’s groom.

International office developer GTC Hungary has received the building permit for its new project, The Twist – Budapest City Tower. Rising over 23 floors, The Twist will be one of Budapest’s tallest office skyscrapers with 37,000 square meters of leasable offices.

Hungary’s economy is likely to grow by above 4 percent both this year and next, the head of the Fiscal Council told a conference on Thursday. Árpád Kovács said the public debt would continue to fall and budget deficit would be below 3 percent of GDP in both years.

One must never forget the fate of those deported to Soviet forced labour camps of the Gulag during and after WWII, the state secretary for Hungarian communities abroad said on Monday. János Árpád Potápi launched a series of programmes before the official ending of the Gulag memorial year on February 25, a memorial day of martyrs of communism, in the House of Hungarians in the Buda Castle.
