The World Jewish Congress began its three-day meeting in Budapest on 3 May with nearly 500 delegates from all over the world. A decision by the International Olympic Committee’s executive committee to remove wrestling from the list of core Olympic sports has caused shock in Hungary. Hungarian Wrestling Federation president Tamás Gáspár called the move a bolt of lightning out of the blue “I simply cannot understand it. I thought wrestling had a stable place in the Olympic programme”.

The annual Hungarian Film Festival will not be held this year due to a shortage of films, Népszava reported on Saturday. The Hungarian Film Makers Federation will instead hold a public general meeting on February 2.
