Ceremonies were held throughout the country on Sunday to commemorate all Hungarian soldiers who died for their homeland. Addressing a commemorative event in Vámosújfalu in north-eastern Hungary, Parliamentary Speaker László Kövér said the Hungarian heroes who sacrificed their lives over the past millennium did it not just to defend Hungary but all of Europe.

The Roma heroes of Hungary’s 1956 anti-Soviet revolution and the Roma victims of the Holocaust will be remembered in the Budapest House of Terror museum on Friday, International Roma Day. Guests will launch a textbook presenting the history of the Roma Holocaust through personal accounts and memories to the Hungarian youth, director of research Márton Békés said.
