Close to 400 programmes will be organised by Hungary in 2017 to mark the 500th anniversary of Reformation in Europe. The series of events opened in Budapest’s Palace of Arts (Müpa) on January 6. Throughout 2017 a variety of performances are planned, such as a rock version of Handel’s oratorio Messiah.

Orbán said next year’s 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation in Europe would be the right time to help believers celebrate Good Friday by declaring it a non-working holiday.
