The cabinet plans to introduce an identity card in 2014 for Budapest residents which will also be a BKV pass, Népszabadság reports. The card will carry all data now featured on separate cards, such as address, social insurance and tax numbers, under an agreement reached by the Administration Ministry and the Budapest Transport Centre.

Ibrahim Hassan, one of three Syrian men who were kidnapped along with the Hungarians, said they were kept in wretched conditions, Magyar Nemzet reports.

Preparations for the Hungarian section of the Russian-backed South Stream gas pipeline are on track and a decision can be made by the end of the year, the Development Ministry announced yesterday. Croatian daily Jutarnji List reported earlier this week that the pipeline might bypass Hungary and go through Croatia instead on its way to Austria.
